KATHUA: The historic town of Basohli is all set to host the third edition of the Basohli Utsav, with Lieutenant Governor, Jammu & Kashmir UT, scheduled to inaugurate the five-day festival on 28th September. The festival promises a grand celebration of the region’s rich cultural, religious and artistic heritage.

The town has been beautifully transformed into a vibrant hub of festivities with Basohli art murals, decorative grand gates, and meticulously prepared event venues including Ramlila Ground, Rani Ka Talab, TRC and the iconic Atal Setu. Various programmes are lined up at these venues and will continue until Vijayadashami.

The world-famous Basohli Ki Ramlila, which commenced a few days ago, has already filled the town with religious fervour. Devotees and tourists from across Jammu & Kashmir and adjoining regions are thronging to witness the spectacular enactments of the Ramayana. Visitors are particularly eager to witness important scenes of Ram Leela, each offering a vivid portrayal of the epic and captivating the spectators with its grandeur.

Alongside the Ramleela, Basohli is immersed in Navratra celebrations, featuring competitions on Basohli paintings, cultural performances, and Bhajan competitions, as well as traditional sports like Santolia, Stapu, and other indigenous games, aimed at connecting the youth to their cultural traditions. Raavi Aarti near Atal Setu is also attracting large crowds, adding to the spiritual and festive atmosphere of the town.

Regional Centre, IGNAC, Vishwasthali, JKAACL, along with Divisional and District Administration, are making all-out efforts to elevate the grandeur of the marquee event. Extensive arrangements have been put in place to ensure smooth conduct of all programmes and provide a memorable experience for locals, tourists and dignitaries alike.

Apart from cultural and religious festivities, visitors will also get an opportunity to explore Basohli’s rich heritage, including its iconic painting art, world-renowned Basohli Pashmina and traditional local delicacies. In a maiden initiative, an Investor Meet is being organised to promote and upscale Basohli paintings and Pashmina, both of which have received Geographical Indication (GI) tag in recognition of their uniqueness and quality. This initiative aims to provide artisans and entrepreneurs with a platform to expand markets, enhance livelihoods and ensure sustainable growth of local crafts.

The festival also focuses on social awareness and community welfare. Events are being organised on important topics such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, as well as programmes to spread awareness about other government welfare schemes, highlighting the role of culture in fostering social responsibility.

The Basohli Utsav is fast emerging as a significant cultural, religious, and economic landmark of Jammu & Kashmir. It showcases the region’s artistic excellence, heritage, and spirituality while promoting tourism, local enterprise, and community participation. The festival not only offers an immersive cultural experience but also provides a platform for innovation, investment and the preservation of traditional arts and practices for future generations.
