DODA:- To mark the National Sports Day, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, a series of sports activities were organized in Doda under the supervision of District Youth Services and Sports Officer Jaffer Haider Sheikh.

A rifle shooting tournament was conducted at the Rifle Shooting Hall on 29th and 30th August for Under-14, Under-17, and Under-19 for boys and girls. Around 150 Boys Girls participated in the event with great enthusiasm, showcasing their talent, discipline, and sporting spirit.

Apart from the shooting event, multiple activities were carried out by the Department of Youth Services and Sports to promote the importance of sports and physical fitness among students. The day highlighted the message of teamwork, dedication, and the role of sports in nation building.

Speaking on the occasion, the DYSSO encouraged the youth to actively participate in sports and carry forward the legacy of Major Dhyan Chand by excelling in their respective fields.

When he appointed me Editor-in-Chief of JK Monitor, he never treated me as an employee, but as a younger brother, offering warmth, trust, respect and invaluable guidance. I will always be grateful for his faith in me, his encouragement and the lessons he shared.

Dr. Ranjan was a rare and noble soul—humble, compassionate, intellectually brilliant and always willing to help others. A visionary thinker, he believed in using knowledge and abilities to make a meaningful difference. His influence lives on through the people he guided, the work he inspired and the countless lives he touched.

For me, he will always be the elder brother who believed in me and guided me with affection. I will cherish his kindness and lessons forever. May his soul rest in eternal peace. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

A brilliant mind who studied at Netarhat Residential School and graduated in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur before earning his PhD from the University of Maryland, Dr. Ranjan chose to return to India and dedicate his life to teaching, research and social good.

His pioneering work in networked systems, AI, robotics and biomedical applications—especially computer-vision tools for early detection of cancer and heart disease—reflected his deep belief that advanced technology must serve humanity.

For more than 15 years at JK Monitor, he remained a loyal friend, mentor and collaborator, marked by rare humility, intellectual integrity and quiet generosity. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. Priya, you will be deeply missed. Your life continues to remind us that knowledge finds its highest purpose in the service of others.
