HANDWARA & SOPORE: As part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, Police in Handwara and Sopore, in coordination with the District Administration, Revenue, and Excise Departments, intensified anti-narcotics operations by taking firm action against illegal encroachments linked to drug-related activities and destroying wild cannabis plants across multiple locations.

In Handwara, an illegally constructed storage shed erected on Government land by a known drug peddler in the Tumina Tarathpora area was demolished after all legal formalities were completed. The illigally constructed storage shed was found under the illegal occupation of Fareed Ahmad Kalgan son of Ali Jaan Kalgan resident of Tumina, who is involved in case FIR No. 30/2021 registered at Police Station Vilgam.

Meanwhile, in Sopore, joint teams of Police, Revenue, and Excise Departments conducted a special drive to identify and destroy wild cannabis plants at Bulgam, Nowpora Kalan, and Matipora Rohama, eliminating potential sources of narcotics.

These coordinated operations underscore the firm commitment of J&K Police to combat drug abuse, dismantle the ecosystem supporting narcotics, and protect the youth from the menace of drugs. Police also appreciated the active cooperation of civil society and appealed to the public to continue supporting the Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan by sharing information related to drug abuse, trafficking, and other illegal activities.
