HANDWARA: Police in Handwara conducted an extensive drive around the schools and other educational establishments to ensure a safe and healthy environment for students. In collaboration with the Civil Magistrates of Qalamabad and Kralgund, Police conducted a special drive to check shops and business establishments located within 100 meters of educational institutions in Qalamabad and Kralgund areas.

During the inspection, strict enforcement of the provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) was carried out. Several shops were checked, and fines were imposed on violators found selling tobacco products in restricted zones.

The initiative was aimed at discouraging the sale of tobacco products near schools and colleges, thereby protecting the younger generation from exposure to harmful substances.

J&K Police has reiterated its commitment to continue such drives in the future and has appealed to the general public, especially shopkeepers, to strictly adhere to the provisions of COTPA for the well-being of the community.
