• Residents hail free health camp as a lifeline for low-income families

SRINAGAR: On the occasion of the 5th death anniversary of Peer Jalal-ud-Din Sahib, the respected Founder and Chairman of Hazrat Sheikh Dawood (RA) Khidmat-e-Khalaq Foundation, a Free Blood Test Camp was organised today at Sheikh Dawood (RA) Medicare Centre, Batamaloo.  The initiative aimed to raise mass awareness about preventive healthcare, provide free diagnostic services to the general public especially economically weaker sections and pay tribute to the late founder’s legacy of community service.

The camp offered a wide range of baseline tests, including Sugar Test, Complete Blood Count (CBC), Blood Sugar, Kidney Function Test (KFT), Liver Function Test (LFT) and other essential investigations. According to the organisers, the purpose was not only to identify undiagnosed health issues but also to encourage people to undergo regular health check-ups particularly those from low-income families who often delay testing due to financial constraints.

The event was attended by Vice President Shabir Ahmad Sofi, General Secretary Shahid Hussain Mir, Diagnostic Lab In-charge Fayaz Ahmad, Lab In-charge Umar Hameed Sofi, Secretary Aijaz Ahmad Khan, Senior Lab Technician Abdul Qayoom Bhat and other team members.

Speaking to the press, Shahid Hussain Mir highlighted the decades-long commitment of the organisation “Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation is a non-profit organisation that has been serving the community for nearly 25 years. Founded by Peer Jalal-ud-Din Sahib, a revered spiritual personality from Batamaloo, his mission was to spread the spirit of service to humanity.

Over the years, our foundation has worked in multiple fields from running the Sheikh Dawood Widow Welfare Ration Scheme (providing monthly food kits to over 100 families), to operating the Khidmat Diagnostic Medical Centre and a non-profitable medical store offering medicines at discounted rates.

Today, on his 5th death anniversary, our members and staff decided to honour his memory by organising this free blood test camp. Hundreds of people have benefited so far. Tests that usually cost hundreds of rupees were conducted free of charge. Our aim is to keep expanding such services so that the underprivileged can continue to receive maximum benefit. We appeal to all well-wishers in the Valley to support the foundation through their words, advice and other means so we can take this mission further.”

Umar Hameed Mir, Lab In-charge, added “Our Sheikh Dawood (RA) Medicare Centre is fully equipped with modern diagnostic technology, including fully automated CBC analysers, immunoassay machines and advanced liver/kidney testing equipment operated by highly qualified staff.

In today’s free medical camp, we attended to a good number of patients, conducting tests such as Sugar, CBC, KFT and LFT. The goal was to raise awareness about the importance of regular health check-ups every three months. Many illnesses, such as diabetes and fatty liver disease, can go unnoticed without testing. Early detection through basic profiles helps people take timely medical action. By the grace of Almighty, the public response has been excellent and we plan to hold similar camps every four months.”

Residents of Batamaloo and nearby areas expressed appreciation for the free camp, describing it as much-needed healthcare support for low-income families. Sabiya Jan, a local resident, said “These tests are expensive in private labs, but here we got them free of cost. It helps us know our health status and take treatment early if needed. This is a blessing for families like ours.”

Ali Mohammad, another Srinagar resident, said “I had never done a complete check-up before because of the cost. This camp not only tested my blood but also explained what each result means. Such services should happen more often.”  Peer Jalal-ud-Din Sahib, remembered today, was widely respected for his spiritual guidance and humanitarian work. The foundation he established continues to focus on social welfare, healthcare and food security for the needy. Initiatives like today’s camp are seen as a continuation of his mission ensuring that care for one’s health becomes a community responsibility, not a privilege. In conclusion, the organisers announced that similar free blood test camps will be conducted every four months at the Khidmat-e-Khalq Medicare Centre.
