SRINAGAR: Anantnag, August 2025: The District Anantnag Rugby Association successfully hosted a thrilling rugby championship that brought together around 15 teams — nearly 150 players, both boys and girls — representing various schools and clubs across the district.

The opening ceremony was graced by Mrs. Shaziya Farooq, Principal of Birla Open Minds International School, Batangoo Anantnag, as the Chief Guest. She was joined by Guest of Honour Mr. Owais Ahmad Dar and Special Guest Mr. Bashir Ahmad, Manager/Incharge of Sports Stadium Anantnag.

The closing ceremony saw Mr. Anees Ul Islam, Coordinator J&K National Conference Anantnag, as the Chief Guest. The Guests of Honour included Mr. Syed Saba Shafi, District Vice President of the National Conference Anantnag; Mr. Shahid Rasheed Dar, Chairman of KIE Anantnag; and Mr. Suhail Hassan Bhat, CEO of Royal Sports Academy Anantnag.

After an intense series of matches, Birla Open Minds International School emerged as the overall winners, followed by KIE Anantnag as runners-up and Royal Sports Academy Anantnag securing the second runners-up position.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Shujaat Altaf Pahalwan, Secretary of the District Anantnag Rugby Association, extended heartfelt thanks to Miss Nuzhat Gull, Secretary of the J&K Sports Council; the President and Secretary of the J&K Rugby Association; the District Administration; Birla Open Minds International School; KIE Anantnag; and the organising committee for their constant support in making such events possible.

“This championship is not just about winning — it’s about teamwork, sportsmanship, and bringing our youth together through the spirit of rugby,” Mr. Pahalwan said. If you want, I can also make a shorter, punchier sports news version for newspaper-style coverage. That would be more compact but still engaging.
