KULGAM: State Level Coordinating Agency (SLCA), in collaboration with Tehsil Administration Kulgam, organised a one-day awareness programme on drug abuse prevention under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. The programme focused on preventive strategies, effective implementation of NCORD meeting directives, and promoting the concept of drug-free Panchayats and Municipalities.

Presiding over the event, Tehsildar Kulgam highlighted the crucial role of lumberdars in prevention efforts and in facilitating timely referrals of drug abuse victims to treatment and rehabilitation centres, including DDAC Kulgam and ATF Kulgam.  He urged them to ensure maximum community participation in IEC activities and to maintain strict vigil on the sale and purchase of illegal drugs, including the misuse of prescription medicines.

He stressed that drug addiction is one of the most serious challenges facing society and that no developmental initiative can succeed unless this menace is eradicated. The programme was attended by TSWO Kulgam, Project Manager DDAC Kulgam, representatives from the Health Department, and officials from other line departments.

Resource persons from DDAC elaborated on the objectives of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, the functioning of Panchayat/ULB-level anti-drug committees, and the current status of substance abuse in Kulgam district. The event concluded with an interactive question-answer session, allowing participants to seek clarifications and share suggestions for strengthening community-led anti-drug initiatives.
