KATRA: The YUVA Tourism Club of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, under the guidance of Dr. V. K. Dogra (HOD Department of Civil Engineering) , Dr. Rakesh Kumar (President, Board of Cultural Activities) and Dr. Rahul Sharma (Vice President, Board Of Cultural Activites) organized an enriching two-day trip to Basohli Hills for the Basohli Mahotsav 2025. Coordinated by Ms Shatakshi Tewari (Coordinator, Yuva Tourism Club, SMVDU) and Mr. Abhishek Raj (Co-Coordinator, Yuva Toursim Club, SMVDU), the trip followed an invitation from the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), Jammu & Kashmir.

The journey began with a scenic ride through the picturesque landscapes of Jammu, passing through Kathua and Billawar, where students enjoyed the breathtaking views of Ranjit Sagar Dam, one of the region’s largest reservoirs. Upon reaching Basohli, the group was welcomed with vibrant cultural displays, traditional music, and a serene evening aarti on the River Ravi, followed by a nukkad natak and the grand Ram Leela, with some university students performing. The group stayed overnight at a local hostel, fostering camaraderie and cultural immersion.

Day two began with enthusiastic participation in the Basohli Marathon, followed by a visit to the National Miniature Painting Camp, where students explored intricate Basohli paintings, interacted with artists, and viewed handicraft exhibitions. The trip concluded with a visit to the iconic Atal Setu Bridge, offering stunning perspectives of modern engineering amidst traditional heritage. This two-day excursion provided students with a vibrant blend of art, culture, spirituality, and exploration, leaving them with lasting memories and a deeper appreciation for India’s rich traditions.
