ANANTNAG: Continuing its intensified drive against illegal narcotics cultivation under the ongoing Nasha Mukt campaign, J&K Police in Anantnag destroyed illegally cultivated poppy crops at multiple locations in Nowgam, Verinag, and registered two separate cases under the NDPS Act.

Acting on specific information Police Station Dooru detected and destroyed illegally cultivated poppy crops on land belonging to Reyaz Ahmad Dar S/o Gh. Hassan Dar and Abdul Majeed Sheikh S/o Abdul Salam Sheikh, both residents of Nowgam, Verinag. In this regard, FIR No. 71/2026 U/S 8/18 NDPS Act stands registered at Police Station Dooru and investigation has been taken up.

In another similar action, illegally cultivated poppy crops raised by Mushtaq Ahmad Parray S/o Abdul Salam Parray R/o Nowgam, Verinag were destroyed in the presence of the Executive Magistrate at village Nowgam. Accordingly, FIR No. 72/2026 U/S 8/18 NDPS Act stands registered at Police Station Dooru, and further investigation is underway.

Police reiterates its firm commitment towards eradication of narcotics cultivation and appeals to the public to continue sharing information about drug peddling and illegal cultivation to help build a drug-free society.
