BUDGAM: SANKALP – Hub for Empowerment of Women, Mission Shakti Budgam, under the supervision of the District Social Welfare Office, Budgam and the aegis of the District Administration Budgam, organized an Awareness Programme on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, 2013 to promote safe, dignified, and gender-sensitive workplaces.
The programme aimed to sensitize participants about the key provisions of the POSH Act, 2013 and strengthen awareness regarding the rights and protections available to employees against sexual harassment at the workplace. The session emphasized the collective responsibility of institutions and individuals in fostering an environment of respect, equality, and professional integrity.
During the programme, Afroza Ahad, District Mission Coordinator, Mission Shakti Budgam, highlighted the objectives and significance of Mission Shakti in empowering women through awareness, support services, and institutional mechanisms that ensure their safety, security, and socio-economic development. She emphasized the importance of creating gender-sensitive workplaces where women can work with dignity and confidence.
Latief Ahmad, Legal Aid Defence Counsel, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Budgam, delivered an informative session on the POSH Act, 2013, elaborating on its legal framework, objectives, and provisions for prevention, prohibition, and redressal of sexual harassment at workplaces. He stressed the importance of awareness of legal rights and the need for effective implementation of the Act to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
The resource persons underscored that awareness, prevention, and timely redressal are crucial for fostering workplaces free from discrimination, harassment, and intimidation. Participants actively interacted during the session and expressed their commitment to upholding the principles enshrined in the POSH Act.
The organizers reiterated that creating safe and respectful workplaces is fundamental to women’s empowerment and inclusive development, and called for continued efforts towards awareness, prevention, protection, and effective grievance redressal.
