AWANTIPORA: As part of its continued efforts to strengthen police-public relations and ensure effective redressal of public grievances, Police organised a Thana Diwas programme at Police Station Khrew, chaired by SSP Awantipora, Shri Irshad H. Rather-JKPS.

The programme was attended by SDPO Pampore, SHO Police Station Khrew and other police officers. It witnessed active participation from local residents, traders and other members of the public, who interacted with police officers and highlighted various issues concerning public safety, law and order, traffic management and other matters affecting the local community.

During the interaction, SSP Awantipora gave a patient hearing to the participants and took stock of the issues raised by them. Discussions focused on local security, drug abuse, traffic violations, tenant verification, crime prevention and strengthening community policing. Participants were encouraged to share their suggestions and concerns to improve police-public coordination and ensure effective resolution of public grievances.

SSP Awantipora emphasised that Thana Diwas provides an important platform for direct interaction between the police and the public, helping bridge the gap between law enforcement agencies and citizens. He assured the participants that genuine grievances would be examined and addressed on priority, in accordance with the law.

He stressed the importance of maintaining peace and public order through active community participation. He urged citizens, particularly the youth, to stay away from drug abuse, remain vigilant against online fraud and cybercrime, and refrain from anti-social activities. He also called upon the public to cooperate with the police in identifying anti-social elements and sharing timely information regarding suspicious or unlawful activities.

Emphasising the importance of security and crime prevention, SSP Awantipora encouraged business establishments and shopkeepers to install CCTV cameras, wherever required, in accordance with applicable directions, to strengthen surveillance and enhance public safety.

He further informed the participants that Awantipora Police has a dedicated helpline 7051404859 for reporting illegal mining activities and other criminal activities. He urged citizens to promptly share information regarding such violations so that timely legal action could be initiated against the offenders. He emphasised that public cooperation and timely information are vital for curbing illegal activities and maintaining law and order.

SSP Awantipora reiterated that Awantipora Police remains committed to providing accessible, transparent and responsive policing services. He urged the participants to maintain close coordination with the police and contribute actively towards preventing crime, combating the drug menace and safeguarding peace and communal harmony.

The programme concluded with an appeal to citizens to continue extending their cooperation to the police in maintaining law and order, preventing crime and strengthening mutual trust between the police and the public.
