KISHTWAR: The Sheep Husbandry Department, Kishtwar, organised an Awareness-cum-Training Camp at Chatroo to educate sheep breeders on scientific rearing practices, animal healthcare, wool management and government welfare schemes.

More than 50 breeders from Chatroo and adjoining areas participated in the programme. Experts guided participants on flock management, balanced nutrition, animal hygiene, disease prevention, vaccination and winter preparedness. Breeders were also sensitised about the National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) and measures to protect livestock from infectious diseases.

The camp included dedicated sessions on scientific wool shearing and improved wool management practices designed to enhance wool quality and market value. Participants received detailed information on departmental welfare schemes and support initiatives available to sheep breeders.

As part of the programme, free veterinary first-aid medicine kits were distributed among the breeders to strengthen basic livestock healthcare at the grassroots level. Addressing the gathering, District Sheep Husbandry Officer Dr. Azhar Moomin Bichoo reiterated the department’s commitment to promoting scientific sheep farming, improving livestock productivity and supporting the socio-economic development of rural communities.
