• Emphasises transparent scrutiny, grassroots-level awareness and effective facilitation to ensure eligible households receive scheme benefits without procedural delays

SRINAGAR: Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Dr. Basharat Qayoom, today chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess the progress and implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0), with particular emphasis on the application process, beneficiary verification, scrutiny of applications and measures required to facilitate timely access to the scheme's benefits for eligible households.

During the meeting, the Commissioner undertook a detailed assessment of the prevailing implementation process and stressed the need for expeditious verification and scrutiny of applications, particularly those pending at various administrative and operational levels. He directed the concerned officers to strengthen interdepartmental coordination, address procedural bottlenecks without delay and ensure that all eligible applications are processed and disposed of within the stipulated timeframe.

Underscoring the welfare-oriented objectives of PMAY-U 2.0, Dr. Basharat emphasised that the implementation mechanism must remain firmly focused on extending the scheme's benefits to deserving households, particularly those belonging to the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Low-Income Groups (LIG). He stressed that the beneficiary verification process must be undertaken with due diligence, transparency and fairness to ensure that genuine applicants are not subjected to unnecessary inconvenience or procedural difficulties.

The Commissioner further called for strengthening public outreach and intensifying awareness initiatives at the ward level. He directed the concerned officers to organise awareness camps, facilitate online registrations and ensure the availability of necessary assistance through ward offices so that prospective beneficiaries can access accurate information and complete the application process without difficulty.

Emphasising the importance of informed public participation, he stressed that residents must be adequately sensitised about the eligibility criteria, requisite documentation and prescribed application procedures under the scheme.

Highlighting the crucial role of Ward Officers and City Level Technical Cell (CLTC) Experts in ensuring effective implementation at the grassroots level, Dr. Basharat called for their enhanced involvement in guiding prospective applicants, addressing their queries and extending necessary assistance to families encountering difficulties with the online registration process.

He observed that comprehensive public awareness, accessible facilitation mechanisms and proactive field-level intervention are essential to ensure that no eligible household is excluded from the scheme on account of inadequate information, difficulties in online registration or avoidable procedural hurdles.

Reiterating the need for accountability and coordinated action, the Commissioner directed all concerned departments and field functionaries to maintain close coordination and pursue the implementation process with urgency. He laid particular emphasis on transparent beneficiary verification, efficient processing and time-bound disposal of pending applications to ensure that the intended benefits of PMAY-U 2.0 reach eligible beneficiaries in a timely and effective manner.
