• ADC calls for making cleanliness a sustained community movement

KATHUA: District Panchayat Office Kathua today organised a cleanliness drive at Airwan Temple to mark Swachhata Hi Seva-2026. Officials and locals actively participated in the cleaning drive, spreading the message of community-led cleanliness.

As part of the programme, an awareness event was also organised at Government High School Airwan. Students delivered speeches and presented nukkad natak on the theme ā€œSwachh Bharat, Swasth Bharatā€, highlighting personal hygiene, proper waste disposal and collective responsibility.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahima Madan, who was the Chief Guest, highlighted the importance of cleanliness in maintaining public health and ensuring a better quality of life.

The ADC called upon students and the community to adopt cleanliness as a daily habit and contribute actively towards keeping their surroundings clean. She emphasized that cleanliness cannot be achieved through government efforts alone and requires sustained participation of every citizen, particularly the youth, who can become ambassadors of the Swachh Bharat mission.

A practical demonstration on proper segregation and disposal of waste was also conducted by the Rural Development Department. The officials demonstrated four different types of dustbins and explained the importance of segregating waste at source.

As a mark of appreciation for their contribution to society, social workers were presented tokens of appreciation, while medals were awarded to the students who participated in the nukkad natak and delivered speeches on cleanliness.

The programme concluded with participants taking Swachhata Shapath, pledging to maintain cleanliness, avoid littering and motivate others to adopt responsible sanitation and waste management practices.

ACP Kathua Ajit Kumar, Tehsildar Headquarter Gandeep Kumar, BDO Nagri Pardeep Singh, BDO HQ Ashok Kumar and officials of concerned departments were also present.
