KATHUA: In a significant initiative aimed at promoting women’s economic empowerment and self-reliance at the grassroots level, a Sugar Packing Unit was inaugurated in Chan Rodia Mandal of Jasrota Assembly Constituency, District Kathua, providing local employment opportunities to women through the Joint Liability Group (JLG) model.
BJP Mahila Morcha J&K President Adv. Neha Mahajan was specially present on the occasion and formally inaugurated the unit by cutting the ribbon. BJP Mahila Morcha General Secretary Geeta Bhagat was also present during the programme.
The Sugar Packing Unit has been established through bank financing for four women members of the STAR WOMEN Joint Liability Group (JLG) — Darshana Rani, Geeta Devi, Asha Devi and Rajni Sharma.
The unit will function under the supervision of Jyoti Sharma, who will guide and coordinate the activities of the four JLG members. The initiative will enable the women to undertake sugar packing and related work on a regular basis, thereby creating a sustainable source of local income.
Speaking on the occasion, Adv. Neha Mahajan appreciated the initiative and said that empowering women with opportunities for livelihood and income generation is an important step towards building financially independent families and stronger communities. She stressed the importance of encouraging more women, particularly in rural areas, to come forward and benefit from self-employment and financial inclusion initiatives.
The guests congratulated the JLG members and appreciated their efforts towards becoming self-reliant through productive economic activity. The JLG model provides a practical platform for women to access financial support, undertake livelihood activities and strengthen their economic participation. Initiatives such as this reflect the importance of promoting women-led self-employment, employment generation and grassroots economic development across rural areas.
The programme concluded with encouragement to the participating women to further expand their activities and inspire more women in the area to explore similar livelihood opportunities.
