JAMMU: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu & Kashmir General Secretary and former Deputy Mayor of Jammu, Baldev Singh Billawaria, addressed a programme organised by BJP Pahari Zila in the Basohli Assembly Constituency to commemorate the historic abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A on August 5, 2019. He described the day as a landmark moment in Indiaâs history, stating that it will always be remembered in golden letters for strengthening national unity and integrity.
Billawaria said that, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the firm resolve of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Jammu & Kashmir has been fully integrated into the national mainstream, ushering in a new era of development, good governance, and equal constitutional rights for all citizens. He stated that todayâs Jammu & Kashmir reflects the image of a changing and progressive India.
Referring to the transformation in the region, Billawaria said that there was a time when Srinagarâs Lal Chowk symbolised separatism and unrest, but today it proudly hosts national celebrations and Tiranga rallies, along with other prominent places across the Union Territory, reflecting a renewed spirit of patriotism and national pride.
Highlighting the improved security situation, Billawaria said that the Valley was once frequently associated with stone-pelting, shutdowns, and violence. However, due to the decisive policies of the Central Government and strengthened security measures, such incidents have been effectively curbed. He added that Jammu & Kashmir is now emerging as a destination for development, tourism, investment, and opportunities for youth, demonstrating the positive impact of strong leadership and clear governance.
Billawaria further stated that the removal of Articles 370 and 35A has ensured genuine social justice in Jammu & Kashmir. He said that communities which had remained deprived of their rights for decadesâincluding the Valmiki community, the Gorkha community, and West Pakistan refugeesâhave now received domicile rights and are participating fully in the democratic process by exercising their right to vote. He described this as not merely a legal reform but a historic decision that restored dignity, equality, and justice to thousands of families who had long been denied their constitutional rights. He added that discrimination has ended and every citizen in Jammu & Kashmir now enjoys equal rights and opportunities guaranteed by the Constitution of India.
Billawaria said that the BJP has fulfilled the commitment it had made to the people of the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He remarked that the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A was not merely a constitutional change but a historic step that strengthened national integration and reinforced the vision of âEk Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.â
Calling upon party workers, Billawaria urged them to take the positive outcomes of this historic decision and the developmental initiatives undertaken by the Central Government in Jammu & Kashmir to every household. He emphasised the need to further strengthen public outreach campaigns and reaffirmed that every BJP worker would continue to serve the people with dedication, while keeping national interest above all else and working tirelessly to strengthen the organisation.
The programme was attended by BJP Pahari District President Gopal Krishan, Col. Mahan Singh, Ravinder Singh Jaswal, Rajat Sapolia, Joginder Singh, along with senior party leaders, office bearers, and a large number of BJP workers.
