SRINAGAR: Kashmir Women Cricket League 2024, Season II, Kicks Off with a Bang! The Kashmir Women Cricket League 2024, being organized by 31 Sub Area under the aegis of Chinar Corps, commenced today at the iconic Sher-I-Kashmir Cricket Stadium.

The opening ceremony, graced by Chief Guest, GOC, 31 Sub Area, and Guest of Honour, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, set the tone for the tournament. The participants were encouraged to showcase their skills and sportsmanship. The coveted trophy was unveiled, marking the beginning of the tournament.

Twelve teams from across Kashmir, comprising 160 talented women cricketers, will fight for the top spot in the league, scheduled from August 1st to 8th. The event aims to promote women's cricket in the region, fostering a spirit of competition and camaraderie.

By supporting and encouraging women in sports, the Army aims to promote gender equality, build confidence, and create opportunities for women to excel. This tournament is a shining example of the Army's dedication to women empowerment and its efforts to bring about positive change in the society. The league is being organised in collaboration with Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), Ujala Cygnus chain of Hospitals and Hope Alive NGO.

When he appointed me Editor-in-Chief of JK Monitor, he never treated me as an employee, but as a younger brother, offering warmth, trust, respect and invaluable guidance. I will always be grateful for his faith in me, his encouragement and the lessons he shared.

Dr. Ranjan was a rare and noble soul—humble, compassionate, intellectually brilliant and always willing to help others. A visionary thinker, he believed in using knowledge and abilities to make a meaningful difference. His influence lives on through the people he guided, the work he inspired and the countless lives he touched.

For me, he will always be the elder brother who believed in me and guided me with affection. I will cherish his kindness and lessons forever. May his soul rest in eternal peace. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

We at JK Monitor are profoundly saddened by the sudden demise of our Founding Chairman, Dr. Priya Ranjan. IN LOVING MEMORY Dr Priya Ranjan

A brilliant mind who studied at Netarhat Residential School and graduated in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur before earning his PhD from the University of Maryland, Dr. Ranjan chose to return to India and dedicate his life to teaching, research and social good.

His pioneering work in networked systems, AI, robotics and biomedical applications—especially computer-vision tools for early detection of cancer and heart disease—reflected his deep belief that advanced technology must serve humanity.

For more than 15 years at JK Monitor, he remained a loyal friend, mentor and collaborator, marked by rare humility, intellectual integrity and quiet generosity. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. Priya, you will be deeply missed. Your life continues to remind us that knowledge finds its highest purpose in the service of others.
