SRINAGAR: Secretary, Youth Services and Sports (YSS), Sarmad Hafeez, today inaugurated the fourth edition of Bijbehara Premier League (BPL). Director YSS, Subash Chander Chibber, Secretary JKSC, Nuzhat Gul and International Cricketer Parveez Rasool were present on the occasion among other officers.

Building on its past success, the BPL has become a major event in professional cricket, attracting both seasoned professionals and emerging talents. This year, 20 top teams from across Jammu & Kashmir will compete on the lush Nilandrusu Bijbehara ground, being maintained by the J&K Sports Council.

The tournament will be broadcast live, bringing the excitement to cricket fans everywhere. The J&K Sports Council is also engaging youth through 'My Youth My Pride' and Community Sports initiatives to promote sports culture in the region.

When he appointed me Editor-in-Chief of JK Monitor, he never treated me as an employee, but as a younger brother, offering warmth, trust, respect and invaluable guidance. I will always be grateful for his faith in me, his encouragement and the lessons he shared.

Dr. Ranjan was a rare and noble soul—humble, compassionate, intellectually brilliant and always willing to help others. A visionary thinker, he believed in using knowledge and abilities to make a meaningful difference. His influence lives on through the people he guided, the work he inspired and the countless lives he touched.

For me, he will always be the elder brother who believed in me and guided me with affection. I will cherish his kindness and lessons forever. May his soul rest in eternal peace. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

A brilliant mind who studied at Netarhat Residential School and graduated in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur before earning his PhD from the University of Maryland, Dr. Ranjan chose to return to India and dedicate his life to teaching, research and social good.

His pioneering work in networked systems, AI, robotics and biomedical applications—especially computer-vision tools for early detection of cancer and heart disease—reflected his deep belief that advanced technology must serve humanity.

For more than 15 years at JK Monitor, he remained a loyal friend, mentor and collaborator, marked by rare humility, intellectual integrity and quiet generosity. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. Priya, you will be deeply missed. Your life continues to remind us that knowledge finds its highest purpose in the service of others.
