JAMMU: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu & Kashmir has congratulated Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and his government for the highly successful conduct of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi and for securing consensus on the New Delhi Declaration.
Girdhari Lal Raina, former MLC and spokesperson of BJP J&K, described the successful summit as a major diplomatic achievement and said it once again demonstrated that India under Prime Minister Modi is no longer willing to play a subordinate role in global affairs.
“The message from New Delhi is clear: India will neither bow to Beijing nor become Washington’s satellite. India will decide its own course and its own strategic partnerships.”
Raina said building consensus within an increasingly diverse BRICS, comprising countries with competing interests and sharply different geopolitical orientations, was no ordinary diplomatic accomplishment. The success demonstrated Prime Minister Modi’s ability to bring divergent nations to the negotiating table without compromising India’s core interests.
He said BRICS must not be allowed to become an instrument of Chinese geopolitical ambitions. “China may aspire to dominate BRICS, but India under Modi will not permit any single power to hijack the grouping for its geopolitical agenda.”
According to Raina, India’s approach towards China represents strategic confidence, not appeasement. New Delhi can engage Beijing where engagement serves Indian interests while remaining uncompromising on sovereignty, national security and the border.
“The Galwan experience has not been forgotten. Border peace and tranquillity remain the essential foundation for normalisation of relations. Dialogue does not mean surrender, and engagement does not mean compromise on national security,” he added.
Raina further said the Modi government has demonstrated a fundamentally different approach. India is simultaneously strengthening the Quad and its strategic partnerships with the United States, Japan and Australia, while maintaining channels of engagement with China and playing an increasingly influential role in BRICS and the Global South.
The Modi government has demonstrated strategic autonomy through action.
On economic relations with China, Raina said India is neither pursuing unrealistic isolation nor permitting dangerous dependence. The correct approach is to reduce vulnerabilities, diversify supply chains and rapidly strengthen domestic manufacturing and technological capabilities.
“The era of helpless dependence is ending. India will engage China where necessary while building the capacity to manufacture, innovate and compete on its own strength.”
Raina opined that the growing influence of BRICS, coupled with India’s expanding diplomatic and economic weight, represents a fundamental shift in the global balance of power. “India under Modi is not choosing between two power blocs. India is emerging as a power centre in its own right.”
He said the successful New Delhi Summit sends a powerful message to the world: India will cooperate where its interests demand cooperation, compete where competition is inevitable, oppose coercion where necessary and never surrender its strategic autonomy.
“This is the New India—confident, assertive and independent. It neither seeks permission from the West nor accepts dictates from Beijing,” Raina said.
