GANDERBAL: A Two-days Human Resource Development (HRD) Programme on Integrated Pest Management was organized today, at AEO Office, Zone Duderhama, Ganderbal. The programme was organized by the Central Integrated Pest Management Centre, Srinagar, in collaboration with the State Agriculture Department, Kashmir.
Dr. Mithilesh Kumar Arya, Deputy Director (PP), delivered a detailed presentation on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and the Safe and Judicious Use of Pesticides. He elaborated on the principles of IPM, focusing on need-based pesticide application, biological control measures, and resistance management to minimize environmental and health hazards. He also informed about Natural enemies, Trichoderma Seed Treatment, Yellow Sticky and Pheromone traps as well to reduce level of infestation.
This was followed by a technical session by Dr. Haroon Rashid Hakla, APPO (PP), who gave a brief demonstration and lecture about National Pest Surveillance System and briefed how this application is highly beneficial for farmers nowadays. Ghulam Ahmad Rather, SMS SDL, Ganderbal, discussed about Importance of Seed Treatment and Integrated Pest Management strategies to reduce pesticide use and promote sustainable agriculture in the region.
Abir Shankhari, APPO (WS), discussed about precautionary measures while spraying pesticides and discussed about harmful effects of pesticides on Human health as well. Kawal Nain Singh, Scientific Assistant, made farmers understood about Need-based fertilizer application and importance of IPM. The programme witnessed active participation from field officials and farmers, aiming to strengthen pest surveillance, promote need based pesticide use, and enhance sustainable agricultural productivity in the region.
