SHOPIAN & AWANTIPORA: Continuing its sustained crackdown on illegal mining, Police have seized fifteen vehicles involved in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals in Shopian and Awantipora.
In Shopian, Police seized ten tractors and two tippers involved in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals from Imamsahib and Keegam areas of the district. During routine patrolling, a police team from Police Station Imamsahib intercepted and seized seven tractors and two tippers at different locations for being involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without valid royalty documents. In a similar action, police party from Police Post Keegam intercepted three tractors engaged in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without mandatory permission.
In Awantipora, a police party of Police Station Pampore, during routine patrolling, detected illegal extraction activities and seized two JCB machines along with one dumper found involved in the unlawful extraction and transportation of soil. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation have been initiated.
Police reiterates its firm commitment to protecting the natural resources and ensuring strict legal action against those involved in illegal mining. The general public is urged to cooperate by reporting any such unlawful activities. The identity of informants shall be kept strictly confidential.
