• Says Veteran Dogra leader played vital role in full integration of J&K with India
  • Visits family of Prem Nath Dogra, pays tributes to veteran Dogra Leader

JAMMU: Pandit Prem Nath Dogra Ji — the legendary Dogra patriot, who forced a nation to confront the question of Jammu & Kashmir's full and unconditional integration with India — remains one of the most consequential nationalist figures of post-independence history. The Hon’ble Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shri Kavinder Gupta, made these remarks while interacting with the family members of Pt. Prem Nath Dogra Ji during his visit to the Prem Nath Dogra Bhawan in Kachi Chawni area of old Jammu city.

The Governor said that Pt. Prem Nath Dogra had earned the proud distinction of being recognised as "Sher-e-Duggar" — the Lion of Duggar — by virtue of his courageous leadership, strong determination, and unwavering commitment towards national integration. He said that Pt. Dogra Ji's ideology and sacrifices continue to inspire generations of nationalist workers and social activists across the country.

The Governor recalled that Pt. Dogra Ji, as President of the Praja Parishad, spearheaded a historic agitation raising the battle cry of "Ek Nishan, Ek Vidhan, Ek Pradhan" that echoed across the nation. His relentless struggle alongside Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee ultimately paved the way for the constitutional integration of Jammu & Kashmir with India. Shri Gupta said that Pt. Dogra Ji's arrests, sacrifices, and indomitable resolve placed him firmly among the foremost nationalist leaders of independent India.

Shri Kavinder Gupta further noted that beyond politics, Pt. Dogra Ji worked ceaselessly for the welfare of common people and the promotion of Dogri language and culture — endearing himself to every section of Dogra society across generations.

Governor Shri Kavinder Gupta also promised that a statue of Pt. Prem Nath Dogra Ji will be installed at his native village Samilpur in District Samba — a befitting tribute to an iconic son of the soil on the very land that gave him to the nation. "The statue at Samilpur will be a mark of honour for this great leader and a source of lasting inspiration for the youth. We must keep alive the flame of patriotism that Pt. Dogra Ji lit for generations to come," said the Governor. Kavinder Gupta also appreciated the family’s continued association with public and social causes. He also prayed for the peace and prosperity of the family members.
