• The online academic mentoring platform addresses a critical shortage of qualified IB and Cambridge curriculum specialists in India through a network of globally sourced expert educators

NEW DELHI:  Academio, an online academic support platform specialising in the International Baccalaureate (IB) and Cambridge IGCSE curricula, has recorded up to 20% month-on-month growth in student enrolments over the course of its first year of operations. Founded in February 2025 and operating on a one-on-one tutoring model, the platform has built a network of 30+ specialist educators — including IB and Cambridge examiners — with an average teaching experience of over ten years.

India’s international curriculum ecosystem has expanded sharply over the past five years. The number of IB-affiliated schools in the country grew from 192 in 2020 to 276 in 2025 — a 44 per cent increase — with adoption now extending into Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. Cambridge IGCSE has seen comparable momentum, with over 550 schools now offering the programme across India, making the country one of the largest IGCSE ecosystems in the world, second only to the United Kingdom. Yet the availability of qualified, specialist academic support has not kept pace with this growth.

Students enrolled in these internationally benchmarked programmes have largely depended on tutoring designed for domestic boards, which does not address the assessment philosophy, analytical rigour, or examination technique that IB and Cambridge IGCSE require. The shortage of educators who genuinely understand these curricula — in both content and assessment — remains a structural gap in India’s academic support ecosystem.

Academio was founded by Nitasha Sagar Kukar — an engineer with an MBA from IIM Bangalore and a career spanning Procter & Gamble and Accenture — to directly address this gap. One of the platform’s defining design choices has been to build its educator network without geographical constraints, making it possible for students across India to access specialist IB and Cambridge tutors regardless of where those educators are based. Academio’s one-on-one online format brings the best of global IB and Cambridge curriculum expertise directly to Indian students — including educators with international teaching experience drawn from beyond India’s borders.

The IB and Cambridge IGCSE curricula demand a fundamentally different kind of teaching,” said Nitasha Sagar Kukar, Founder and CEO. “These programmes reward conceptual depth and analytical thinking. Finding educators who genuinely understand this — and who can build that capability in individual students — is not straightforward. Our network exists because we refused to compromise on that standard.

Academio’s platform currently has 32 active tutors with an average teaching experience of over ten years. Ninety-five per cent of these educators were brought on board through academic referrals rather than open applications. Every tutor meets a minimum onboarding threshold of three years of dedicated experience in the specific international curriculum they teach. The network includes IB and Cambridge examiners — educators who assess the very papers students sit — giving students direct access to tutors who understand these programmes from the inside.

The platform’s approach has produced measurable academic results. 95% per cent of Academio’s students have improved by at least one grade, and 90 per cent have exceeded their predicted grades in board examinations relative to mock or end-of-year assessments.

Kukar, who navigated the IB system as a parent before founding Academio, has drawn on that experience in shaping the platform’s approach to student mentoring. The company describes its model as one of sustained academic partnership with students and families, rather than transactional subject coaching.

Having established its presence in the Delhi NCR market through its Gurugram centre — operational since April 2025 — Academio is now looking at expanding its footprint to Bengaluru and Pune.

Overview

Nitasha Sagar Kukar is the Founder and CEO of Academio, an online academic support platform specialising in the International Baccalaureate (IB) and Cambridge IGCSE curricula. She founded Academio in February 2025 after navigating India’s international education landscape as a parent — an experience that exposed her firsthand to the acute shortage of qualified, curriculum-specialist educators available to IB and Cambridge IGCSE students in the country.

An engineer by training with an MBA from IIM Bangalore, Nitasha brings to Academio a rare combination of analytical rigour, corporate leadership experience, and a deeply personal understanding of what students and families go through inside international curricula. Under her leadership, Academio has grown from inception to a platform serving students across India, with 15 to 20% month-on-month enrolment growth in its first year of operations.

Professional Background

Before founding Academio, Nitasha held senior roles at two of the world’s most respected multinational organisations. At Procter & Gamble, she worked across brand and business management functions, developing a strong foundation in consumer insight and strategic communication. At Accenture, she honed her expertise in business transformation and client management across complex, large-scale engagements.

Her career has spanned geographies — having lived and worked in India, the United Kingdom, and Singapore — giving her direct exposure to international education systems and the global academic pathways that IB and Cambridge IGCSE students aspire toward. This global perspective informs both the design of Academio’s programmes and its educator sourcing philosophy.

Founding Academio

Nitasha founded Academio after her own experience as a mother of three navigating the IB system in India. She encountered a market with very few credible options for specialist academic support — where the tutoring available was largely designed for domestic boards and ill-suited to the conceptual demands of international curricula. Rather than accept this as a given, she set out to build a solution: an online-first platform where students anywhere in India could access expert IB and Cambridge educators, regardless of geography.

Academio’s founding principle — placing genuine educator quality above all else — is reflected in its tutor sourcing model. Ninety-five per cent of Academio’s 32 educators have been brought on through academic referrals, not open applications. Every tutor holds a minimum of three years of dedicated experience in the specific international curriculum they teach, and the network includes IB and Cambridge examiners.

Education Philosophy

Nitasha’s approach to education is rooted in the belief that students in international curricula do not need more content — they need stronger conceptual foundations, better examination technique, and mentors who understand how these programmes are designed and assessed. She has spoken of her admiration for the physicist Richard Feynman and his philosophy of deep understanding over surface-level knowledge — a principle that shapes how Academio tutors are selected and how sessions are structured.

She is a vocal advocate for moving away from rote learning and for the kind of one-on-one mentoring that builds lasting academic confidence, particularly in the high-stakes years leading up to IGCSE and IB Diploma examinations.

Areas of Expertise & Spokesperson Topics

Nitasha is available to speak and write on the following topics: the IB and Cambridge IGCSE curricula and how they differ from India’s domestic boards; concept-driven learning and the limitations of rote-based tutoring; parenting in competitive global education systems; global university pathways for Indian students; the future of learning and the role of AI in education; and education entrepreneurship in India.
