• Awareness programmes conducted; poppy cultivation destroyed, narcotics search carried out

AWANTIPORA: Continuing its efforts under the Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan, J&K Police in Awantipora organized multiple drug awareness programmes and intensified enforcement actions to combat the drug menace.

In Tral, a series of awareness programmes were conducted to educate the public, particularly students, about the harmful effects of drug abuse.  A programme was held at Police Post Aripal under the supervision of SDPO Tral, while similar sessions were organized at Government Boys Middle School Kounsarbal and Government High School Bathen. Students and staff actively participated, and officers highlighted the ill effects of narcotics, urging the youth to stay away from drugs and contribute towards a drug-free society.

Meanwhile, acting on reliable information provided by the Beat Incharge, Police Station Tral detected illicit poppy cultivation in village Razak Shah, Tral. The crop was destroyed on the spot in coordination with the Revenue and Agriculture Departments. In this connection, a case FIR No. 50/2026 under Section 8/18(c) of the NDPS Act has been registered and investigation has been taken up.

In a separate action, Police Awantipora conducted a narcotics related search operation in the Lethpora area based on specific inputs. Several locations were thoroughly searched in accordance with legal procedures to curb drug trafficking and identify individuals involved in such activities.

Police reiterates its commitment to eradicate the drug menace and appeals to the general public to cooperate and share any information related to drug trafficking or illicit cultivation with the nearest police unit.
