SRINAGAR: The Jammu & Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on Saturday evening took strong cognisance of the chilling incident in which a Kashmiri shawl seller, Jehangir Ahmad, was harassed and brutally assaulted by fringe elements in Dehra, Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, and has taken up the matter with the office of the Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, and the Office of Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh.
The National Convenor of the Association, Nasir Khuehami, spoke to the Political Secretary to the Leader of Opposition and the Media Advisor to the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Naresh Chauhan, and sought their immediate intervention in the matter. Responding to Khuehami, the office of Rahul Gandhi assured full support and intervention.
Meanwhile, Naresh Chauhan assured that an FIR is being registered, police teams have been dispatched, raids are underway, and arrests are likely to be made tonight. He further conveyed that strict and exemplary action will be taken in connection with this incident and that such acts of violence and intimidation will not be tolerated at any cost. Chahuan added that the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has assured that the state government is firmly committed to safeguarding the security, dignity, and rights of every citizen, including traders and workers from the Kashmir Valley.
