DODA: Pawan Sharma, State Secretary, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jammu and Kashmir, today stated that the concept of “One Nation, One Election” is a visionary and transformative reform that will play a crucial role in realizing the goal of Viksit Bharat @2047. He was addressing a program organized by BJP Doda at the District Headquarters, Doda, which witnessed the participation of party functionaries, workers, and citizens from different walks of life.
Addressing the gathering, Pawan Sharma said that India, being the world’s largest democracy, has successfully conducted elections for decades. However, the current system of frequent elections in one part of the country or another has significantly hampered governance, administrative efficiency, and development work. “Continuous elections divert the focus of governments from policy-making and development to election management, enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, and political mobilization,” he remarked.
He emphasized that One Nation, One Election will ensure political stability, policy continuity, and effective governance. “When governments get a full, uninterrupted tenure, they can focus on long-term planning, structural reforms, and people-centric development, which is essential for building a strong and self-reliant India,” Sharma said.
Highlighting the economic aspect, Pawan Sharma stated that conducting repeated elections involves massive expenditure of public money, administrative machinery, and security forces. “Synchronised elections will significantly reduce the financial burden on the exchequer, save valuable resources, and allow better utilization of manpower for nation-building tasks,” he added.
He further noted that frequent elections adversely affect development projects, especially in regions like Jammu and Kashmir, where administrative focus is crucial for infrastructure growth, employment generation, and social welfare. “One Nation, One Election will accelerate development, ensure timely completion of projects, and strengthen public trust in democratic institutions,” Sharma asserted.
Referring to India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat @2047, Pawan Sharma said that electoral reforms are as important as economic and social reforms. “A developed India requires strong institutions, stable governance, and an efficient democratic process. One Nation, One Election is not about weakening democracy; it is about strengthening it,” he clarified.
He also appealed to party workers to take this message to the grassroots and create awareness among the masses about the benefits of this reform. “The BJP believes in reforms with consensus and dialogue. Public awareness and participation are key to the success of such a historic initiative,” he said.
The program concluded with an interactive session, where party workers expressed their support for the reform and resolved to actively contribute to spreading awareness about One Nation, One Election as a decisive step towards a developed, strong, and prosperous India by 2047.
“Prominent among those present on the occasion were Shri Babu Ram Sharma, BJP District President, Doda; Shri Gajay Singh Rana, senior BJP leader and District Prabhari, Kishtwar; Shri Vipan Sharma, Organising Secretary, Udhampur Parliamentary Constituency; along with Shri Ashok Bhagat and Shri Rakesh Sharma, BJP District General Secretaries, Doda, and several Mandal Presidents.”
