SRINAGAR: Deep frustration and anxiety are brewing among the 7th semester students of Kashmir University, who have raised strong objections to what they describe as an “unrealistic and unfair academic schedule”.

According to the students, classes for the 7th semester commenced only after mid-October, yet the university has scheduled the semester examinations to begin from December 3, 2025 — leaving them with barely 40 days to cover a vast syllabus comprising four major subjects.

In a letter addressed to the JK Monitor News Team, the students expressed that the compressed schedule severely undermines both learning and preparation, making it impossible to study the subjects in depth.

“Our classes began only after October 15, and with exams starting on December 3, we have barely a month and a half to complete and revise the entire syllabus. Many teachers were also unavailable during this period, further cutting down our effective learning time,” the students wrote.

They emphasized that such a rushed approach compromises the very purpose of education, turning academic sessions into mere formalities rather than meaningful learning experiences.

“With a massive syllabus to cover, it is humanly impossible for students to grasp and prepare for exams in such a short period. The university seems to be prioritizing examinations over education itself,” the statement read.

Students further argued that the current timeline places extreme pressure on both learners and teachers, undermining the quality of classroom engagement. They appealed to the university administration to reconsider the examination dates and extend the academic calendar, ensuring a fair and balanced opportunity for preparation.

“We urge the authorities to act with empathy and academic integrity. Education should never be reduced to a race against time,” the letter concluded.

The students’ plea highlights a growing concern among young scholars across the region about academic planning, fairness, and the balance between learning and evaluation.

As of now, the university administration has not issued any official response. However, students are hopeful that their collective voice, echoed through responsible media platforms, will prompt the authorities to review the schedule and prioritize quality education over procedural haste.
