- Modi govt responsive to public welfare issues raised in Parliament: Sat Sharma
NEW DELHI: Reaffirming the unwavering commitment of the Narendra Modi–led Government to swiftly address public concerns and deliver results on the ground, BJP Jammu & Kashmir President and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Sat Sharma, CA, has stated that every genuine issue raised in Parliament is not only heard with seriousness but is also followed by time-bound, accountable action. He said that the prompt written response by the Union Government once again proves that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, governance is rooted in sensitivity, speed, and decisive follow-up, especially on matters directly impacting the lives of common citizens.
Sat Sharma had raised a Special Mention in the Rajya Sabha on December 5, 2025, highlighting the dilapidated condition of the Poonch–Budha Amarnath Road, a crucial lifeline for the people of the region and a key route for pilgrims. Responding swiftly, the Union Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways and Corporate Affairs, Shri Harsh Malhotra, issued a detailed written reply outlining the present status and future roadmap for the road’s development.
As per the reply, the Poonch to Chandak stretch (approximately 7 km) forms part of NH-144A and is currently being upgraded to a two-lane road with paved shoulders under Package-VIII of the Akhnoor–Poonch Road project through BRO. The project has already achieved 64% physical progress and is targeted for completion by September 30, 2026. The Minister has further assured that during the execution phase, the existing road is being properly maintained to ensure smooth and uninterrupted traffic movement, providing much-needed relief to daily commuters and travelers.
The reply also clarifies that the Chandak to Budha Amarnath stretch (around 13 km) is a State Road, falling under the jurisdiction of PWD (R&B), UT of Jammu & Kashmir. The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has formally forwarded the matter to the UT Government, advising it to either take up development through its own resources or include the project under CRIF priority works, subject to availability and easing of liabilities.
Welcoming the prompt, transparent, and solution-oriented response, Sat Sharma said that this written reply itself stands as solid evidence of the Modi Government’s deep concern for public welfare, particularly in border and remote areas like Poonch. He emphasized that improved road connectivity will play a vital role in ensuring safe and smooth movement for youth, students, patients, senior citizens, and the local population at large.
He further underlined that the upgradation of this road will greatly benefit thousands of pilgrims visiting the highly revered Budha Amarnath Ji Shrine, while also strengthening daily connectivity for traders, workers, and commuters who depend on this vital route for their livelihood and essential services.
Sat Sharma urged the concerned executing agencies to expedite work on the National Highway portion from Poonch to Chandak, and simultaneously pressed the PWD (R&B) to take immediate and effective steps for the Chandak to Budha Amarnath stretch, strictly in line with the solution suggested by the Union Ministry.
Sat Sharma further emphasized that the BJP-led Government believes in action, accountability, and coordination, and will continue to pursue infrastructure development in border and remote areas to improve connectivity, boost pilgrimage tourism, and enhance the quality of life for the people.
He reiterated that every genuine public issue raised in Parliament finds a clear hearing and concrete follow-up under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, reflecting a governance model rooted in sensitivity, speed, and transparency.
