RAJOURI: Social Welfare Department Rajouri today organized a series of structured training programmes to strengthen community-based awareness campaign against drug abuse and substance addiction- a key initiative of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA).

The training programmes were conducted for Teachers/Masters, Anganwadi Workers and members of Self Help Groups drawn from different blocks of the District. The initiative aimed to equip grassroots level functionaries with the necessary knowledge and skills to sensitize the general public—particularly women, youth and vulnerable sections of society—about the ill effects of drug abuse and to promote a drug-free and healthy society.

The Resource Persons from the Health Department, including Medical Officers, BMOs and specialists from GMC & AH Rajouri shared expert technical and medical inputs at the designated training venues.

The participants were sensitized to the early signs of addiction, preventive measures, community-level counselling and the importance of early intervention. Detailed information regarding government schemes, available de-addiction and rehabilitation services and helpline channels was also shared with the trainees.

The District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO), Rajouri highlighted the socio-psychological aspects of substance abuse and stressed the critical role of community institutions, frontline workers and local leadership in prevention, early identification and rehabilitation of persons affected by substance addiction.

The trainings witnessed active participation from the functionaries from blocks including Budhal Old, Budhal New, Thanamandi, Planger, Rajouri, Nowshera, Manjakote, Panjgrain, Dhangri, Lamberi, Kalakote, Sunderbani, Siot and Seri, reflecting effective inter-departmental coordination and strong community engagement in the fight against drug abuse.
