REASI: Under the leadership of Khalil Choudhary, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority Reasi (also Principal District and Sessions Judge Reasi) and Pooja Gupta, Secretary, DLSA Reasi, the District Legal Services Authority Reasi today organised an awareness programme on the topic “Mediation process” at village Butaan. The programme was conducted by a group of Para Legal Volunteers of TLSC Katra.

The general public was sensitised to the role of mediation in ensuring speedy, cost-effective and amicable resolution of disputes. The objective of the programme was to promote legal awareness, encourage amicable dispute resolution and strengthen access to justice for all. An awareness programme in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department Reasi on the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act was organised at Government Higher Secondary School Arnas and Government High School Ghair Mari.

During the programme, participants were educated about the ill effects and legal consequences of child marriage, the provisions of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 and the importance of ensuring education, health and overall development of children. Information was also provided on free legal aid services available through DLSA Reasi and the role of Legal Services Authorities in safeguarding the rights of women and children.

Another activity was organised at Sub Jail Reasi, where a chess competition was held for jail inmates in the presence of Niharika Bamotra and Dheeraj Singh Thakur, Assistant Legal Aid Defence Counsels, DLSA Reasi. The objective of the activity was to promote mental wellbeing, positive engagement and legal awareness among the inmates.

During the jail visit, the Legal Aid Defence Counsels also interacted with the inmates to understand their grievances, apprised them of the availability of free legal aid services and emphasised the role of legal assistance in safeguarding their rights. The initiative aimed to foster reformative and rehabilitative measures within the correctional system in line with the mandate of NALSA.
