KISHTWAR: The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Kishtwar organised an outreach and awareness programme in the slum areas of Kishtwar under the “Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat” campaign. Protection Officer (NIC) Touseef Iqbal Butt urged the parents to admit their children in schools for a better future, while advising them not to force children into child marriage and instead focus on the education and overall development of their wards.
He also highlighted the key provisions of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act and the role and responsibilities of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Child Helpline 1098 and other support mechanisms available for children at risk.
The participants raised issues related to the date of birth records and Aadhaar cards of their children. The officials assured them of full assistance in facilitating the creation of aadhaar cards and issuance of date of birth records for their children.
Among those present and who spoke during the programme were Vikey Sharma (Project Coordinator, CHL), Rumeela Rashid (Counsellor, DCPU) and Vibha Sharma (ORR, DCPU).
