JAMMU: The Photography Club, University of Jammu, under the banner of UTSAH – The Club Consortium, in collaboration with Canon India, concluded a two-day Architectural Photography Workshop aimed at capturing the spirit of Jammuiyat through visual storytelling.

The workshop was organised under the Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Programme, which focuses on nurturing skilled, creative, and socially rooted youth. By encouraging students to engage with Jammu’s architectural heritage, the initiative highlighted how a strong connection with local culture can shape confident and responsible contributors to a developed India.

Aligned with the vision of Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, the workshop reflected the University’s emphasis on blending cultural awareness with skill development. The Vice-Chancellor has consistently advocated that youth engagement with regional heritage strengthens national growth by grounding progress in identity and values.

With a focus on Jammuiyat, the workshop encouraged participants to explore and photograph Jammu’s distinctive architectural landscape, including heritage structures and urban spaces, capturing narratives of tradition, continuity, and resilience.

Prof. Meena Sharma, Chairperson, UTSAH – The Club Consortium, appreciated the initiative of the Photography Club and said that photography offers a fresh way of seeing the world. She added that creative activities not only build expression and sensitivity but also help students manage stress and anxiety.

The workshop was conducted under the guidance of Canon India expert Virendra Adhikari, who introduced participants to architectural photography as a medium that documents culture and memory. He guided students on how buildings and spaces silently reflect social history and lived experiences.

Dr. Pritam Singh, Coordinator, Photography Club, University of Jammu, shared that the workshop aimed to help students view Jammu’s architecture as a living canvas rather than static structures. He informed that the first day focused on theoretical aspects and photographic techniques, while the second day involved hands-on fieldwork, during which participants photographed iconic architectural landmarks of the city.

More than 60 students from various departments of the University participated in the workshop, making it a meaningful platform where youth creativity, local identity, and the broader vision of Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect came together.
