SRINAGAR: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Tuesday hosted the inaugural meeting of its newly registered Alumni Association of NIT Srinagar (AANITS), marking a significant step in strengthening alumni engagement and global outreach.
The meeting served as a platform for detailed deliberations on building a robust alumni network, launching global chapters, and institutionalizing mentorship opportunities for students. It was presided over by Er. Aamir Ali Mir, Vice President of AANITS and Director of Disaster Management, J&K. Prof. Mohammad Shafi Mir, President AANITS, Prof MA Shah, Dean Alumni & International Affairs, welcomed the members and led the proceedings, which also focused on planning the 2025 Alumni Meet and enhancing global alumni outreach.
Key office bearers in attendance included Er. Ali Mohammad Rather, General Secretary and Former Executive Engineer, JKPDD; Er. Syed Javed Bukhari, Secretary and Vice President & MD of FIL Industries Pvt. Ltd.; and Dr. Mursaleen Hussain Mohammad, Additional Secretary. Prof. Manzoor Ahmad Ahanger, Joint Secretary-I, Dr. Shahid Saleem, Treasurer and Prof. MA Shah, Member-Secretary and Dean AIA, also participated in key discussions. Dr. Dinesh Kumar Rajendran, Coordinator, and Dr. H.S. Pali, Associate Dean, were also present. Meanwhile Abhiraj Das, Muhammad Hussain and Malkeet Singh also attended the meeting.
A major highlight of the meeting was the formal launch of SANGAM – Student-Alumni Network for Growth, Aspirations & Mentorship, a visionary initiative aimed at creating a vibrant and structured platform for alumni-student interaction. The SANGAM platform is designed to build enduring relationships between current students and the vast alumni base of the institute, fostering a culture of mentorship, professional development, and collaborative growth.
Prof. M.A. Shah, who is spearheading the initiative, explained that SANGAM will enable structured support for research, innovation, and career development by drawing on the expertise of alumni across disciplines. He emphasized that the initiative is aligned with the Five-Year Vision Document of NIT Srinagar and aims to develop strategic partnerships through both regional and international alumni chapters. The initiative also aspires to serve as a knowledge bridge across borders and generations.
The meeting included brainstorming on SANGAM’s flagship activities such as the “Alumni Back to Campus” program, which will bring alumni back to their alma mater for guest lectures and academic interaction. Plans were also discussed for a distinguished alumni awards program and the launch of an annual alumni magazine titled “Bridges and Beacons,” which will document the journeys, achievements, and reflections of alumni.
The magazine’s first edition is scheduled to be unveiled at the SANGAM Meet 2025, planned for the Delhi Chapter. It will feature research articles, career guidance, campus chronicles, creative works, and student achievements.
Prof. Shah said that SANGAM is not just a platform but a movement that aims to connect aspirations with experience, and ambition with wisdom. He noted that the initiative will help shape a more inspired, innovative, and inclusive future for the NIT Srinagar community.
The meeting concluded with unanimous support for expanding alumni chapters worldwide and implementing the SANGAM roadmap to strengthen institutional bonds and global engagement.
