SRINAGAR: Janta Dal United (JDU) Party President, Shri G.M. Shaheen, has urgently appealed to the Lieutenant Governor’s administration to take immediate steps to address the critical issue facing farmers in Jammu and Kashmir. Due to prolonged dry weather conditions, most agricultural lands are suffering from severe water shortages, causing extensive damage to crops and distress among farmers.

Shri Shaheen highlighted that the majority of irrigation pumps are non-functional because of their outdated condition and lack of maintenance. “In this modern era, where high-tech machinery is widely available, it is imperative that we replace these old, inefficient irrigation pumps with new, advanced equipment to ensure farmers have reliable access to water,” he stated.

Criticizing the current government, Shaheen condemned the expenditure on luxury vehicles instead of prioritizing essential agricultural infrastructure. “Instead of purchasing luxury vehicles, the government must focus on procuring adequate irrigation pumps to support our farmers. The people of Jammu and Kashmir cannot endure such hardships during these dry days,” he added.

The JDU leader further emphasized the lack of a comprehensive plan for farmers by the Jammu and Kashmir government, which has led to the suffering of thousands of farmers whose crops have been severely damaged due to insufficient irrigation water.

In conclusion, Shaheen urged the Lieutenant Governor’s administration to intervene promptly and provide relief to the farming community, stating, “We expect the administration to take swift action so that farmers can breathe a sigh of relief and their livelihoods are protected.”
