NEW DELHI: A delegation of the All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC), led by its President Anil Sharma, met Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh (MoS, PMO) at his official residence in New Delhi.  During the meeting, the delegation discussed several important issues concerning rural development, Panchayati Raj Institutions in J & K, and public welfare in Jammu and Kashmir. They also presented a list of demands and requested the Union Minister’s support in addressing them.

The main demands included the setting up of a Sub-District Hospital in Nagrota to improve healthcare services in the region. The delegation explained that the hospital would not only provide health facilities to the local population but would also be helpful for travelers on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Since Nagrota is one of the prominent points along the highway, a hospital there could play a vital role during emergencies.

They also demanded the establishment of ITI and Polytechnic colleges in the Dansal block and Garota Bhalwal to create better opportunities for technical education and skill development among local youth. Another major demand was expediting the construction work and opening of Degree College in Mathwar Block at Aghore.

The delegation pointed out that many students in the area face serious problems in pursuing higher education due to the lack of such institutions nearby. The issue of the newly constructed unsafe building of Government Degree College Jindrah also came up during the meeting with the minister.

Anil Sharma also offered the services of the AJKPC organization for providing training to elected Panchayat members, students, and rural population. The AJKPC President said the organization can help in providing training to people in areas like education about the functioning of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), imparting social audit skills, awareness about human rights laws, and sensitization programs for officers regarding the proper implementation of the Public Services Guarantee Act, the Right to Information Act (RTI), and other likewise public-friendly laws.

He informed the minister that AJKPC has a dedicated group of legal professionals, research scholars, and well-known social and RTI activists who are ready to assist in this effort. The minister gave a patient hearing to the visiting delegation and assured them to consider their genuine demands in a time-bound manner on priority.
