JAMMU: A training-cum-awareness programme on the National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS) Mobile App was today organized at the Directorate of Agriculture Talab Tillo . The event was organised by Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare Department, Jammu in collaboration with the Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Jammu. The programme aimed to equip agriculture officers from all districts of the Union Territory with comprehensive knowledge of the NPSS mobile application and its web portal, focusing on its practical use in modern pest surveillance and management.

The training was conducted under the chairmanship of the Joint Director (Extension), Jammu Sanjay Anand, who is also the Nodal Officer for NPSS, Jammu. Deputy Director (Plant Protection), Dr. Mithilesh Kumar Arya from CIPMC, Jammu were also present. The programme was attended by Plant Protection Officer (PPO), Raju Mahajan ; APPO (Extension), Ravi Chappare; APPO (Plant Protection)  Dr. Haroon Rashid Hakla, District Agriculture Officers  and staff of the Agriculture Department.

Addressing the gathering, Sanjay Anand highlighted the transformative potential of the NPSS app in strengthening pest management and crop protection mechanisms in the region. He stressed the need for organizing similar training and capacity-building programmes at the district level to ensure effective implementation of the system at the grassroots level.

Plant Protection Officer Raju Mahajan elaborated on the operational aspects of NPSS. He stressed to make it fully functional at the field level to enable the farming community to achieve intended benefits. Dr. Mithilesh Kumar Arya delivered a detailed presentation on the features and benefits of the NPSS mobile application, emphasizing its importance in early pest detection, real-time reporting and timely advisory services for farmers.

A live demonstration on pest identification and image uploading through the app was also conducted, providing hands-on exposure to the participants. The event represented a major step forward in leveraging digital technology to enhance agricultural productivity and promote sustainable pest management practices in the region.
