DODA: A meeting of the District Level Committee under the Narcotics Coordination Centre (NCORD) was convened today at Conference Hall, DC Office Complex, Doda, under the chairmanship of the District Development Commissioner (DDC), Harvinder Singh. The meeting reviewed the progress of ongoing anti-drug initiatives and discussed strategies to further strengthen coordinated action against substance abuse in the district.

The meeting was attended by the SSP, Sandeep Kumar Mehta, ADC, Anil Kumar Thakur, ACD, ACP, DSWO, CMO Doda, Principal GDC Doda, CEO, ARTO, Tehsildar, Executive Officer Municipality and other concerned officers and officials. Other officers and officials also participated through virtual mode.

The DDC issued a string of directions to enhance inter-departmental coordination and grassroots-level effectiveness. All Officers and officials were instructed to furnish updated lists of counselors to ensure seamless coordination and active involvement at the local level. Emphasis was also laid on organising structured training programmes and special awareness sessions for counselors to strengthen their role in drug prevention and community outreach.

The status of the Nasha Mukt Panchayat initiative was reviewed in detail and directions were issued to intensify efforts towards making all panchayats drug-free. The DDC reiterated the need for strict enforcement of the prohibition on the sale of tobacco products within a 100-yard radius of educational institutions, directing all concerned departments to ensure zero tolerance in this regard.

The meeting also took stock of the progress of CCTV camera installations at vulnerable and strategic locations across the district, with instructions to expedite the completion of pending works. Additionally, the DDC stressed the importance of conducting regular awareness programmes to sensitise the public, particularly the youth, about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to encourage active community participation in the collective fight against drugs.

SSP, Sandeep Kumar Mehta emphasised strict law enforcement against drug peddlers and networks involved in narcotics trafficking. He called for enhanced intelligence sharing, community policing and active public cooperation to eliminate the drug menace.
