SRINAGAR: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Information Technology, Transport, Youth Services and Sports,  Satish Sharma, today attended the Ashoora procession at Alamgari Bazar, Srinagar, to pay homage to the martyrs of Karbala. He expressed solidarity with the Shia Muslim community on the solemn occasion of 10th Muharram.

Former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah, Legislators Tanvir Sadiq, Mushtaq Guru and other prominent representatives of various religious organizations and community elders were also present. The Minister joined thousands of mourners as they paid tribute to the supreme sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions, highlighting the universal message of justice, sacrifice and truth. He termed the day as a powerful reminder of standing firm against tyranny and upholding the values of righteousness.

Speaking on the occasion, Satish Sharma said, “Ashoora is not only a day of mourning but also of reflection, reminding us of the eternal message of Imam Hussain (AS) who stood against injustice and oppression. His legacy continues to inspire the generations across the world, cutting across religions and regions.”

The Minister appreciated the coordination between the administration, local volunteers and religious leaders in ensuring smooth conduct of the event. He further directed the officials of the concerned departments, including FCS&CA, Transport and Health, to ensure all necessary arrangements of essential supplies, mobility and emergency medical support throughout the Muharram period.

The Minister also emphasized the need for communal harmony and respect for all faiths, stating that unity in diversity remains the cornerstone of Jammu and Kashmir’s pluralistic ethos. Senior officers of the district administration were also present on the occasion.
