POONCH: With utmost religious devotion and reverence, Ashoora processions were held today across Poonch district to mark the 10th day of Muharram, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and his companions in the Battle of Karbala.
MLA Haveli Aijaz Jan, Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Vikas Kundal, Senior Superintended of Police Shafket Hussain Batt, Additional Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Tahir Mustafa Malik, Tehsildar Haveli, DySP, besides other officers from civil administration and police, besides civil society members, religions heads took part in the procession.
The Ashoora procession in Poonch town, organized under the patronage of the Anjman-e-Jaffria president was attended by a large gathering of men and women mourners, as well as renowned ulemas of the Shia sect. The procession highlighted the significance of the Karbala tragedy and the great sacrifice of Imam Hussain, with speakers emphasizing the moral lessons drawn from the martyrdom.
The procession began at Takya Pehalwan Shah and passed through the main market area of Poonch town, culminating at Imam Bargah Poonch in the evening. Thousands of mourners participated, displaying immense devotion throughout the route.
The district administration had made extensive arrangements for the smooth conduct of the procession. These included sanitation measures along the procession route, first aid medicare services with ambulances and water tankers for the comfort of the mourners. Comprehensive traffic and security management plans were implemented by the police to facilitate an orderly procession.
Anjuman-e-Jaffaria extended their heartfelt gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor (LG) Administration, Deputy Commissioner Poonch and other district authorities for their dedicated efforts in ensuring the safety, security and overall comfort of the participants in the procession.
