In loving memory of Dr. Priya Ranjan: A mentor who treated me like family

JAMMU: The Udhampur Campus (Garnai-Lotta), University of Jammu, organised a cleanliness drive within the campus premises under the Parisar Swachhta Abhiyan to promote cleanliness, hygiene and environmental responsibility.

The initiative aimed to reinforce the principle that maintaining clean surroundings is a shared institutional responsibility requiring sustained participation, individual accountability and responsible practices. Students, teaching faculty and non-teaching staff actively participated in the drive and also took the Swachh Bharat Pledge.

Addressing the participants, Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Rector, Udhampur Campus, emphasised that cleanliness is essential for maintaining a healthy learning environment. ā€œCleanliness begins with personal hygiene practiced every day, then extends to the community, and ultimately shows up at the national level,ā€ he said.

Prof. Sharma urged students and staff to cultivate discipline, civic responsibility and environmental awareness. He further stressed that incorporating cleanliness into daily routines and actively contributing to keeping the surroundings clean constitute meaningful contributions towards building a healthy society and nation.

The initiative reflects the continued commitment of the Udhampur Campus to fostering a culture of cleanliness and environmental stewardship within the academic community. Such activities strengthen collective responsibility and promote an institutional ethos that recognises the intrinsic connection between environmental hygiene, public well-being and sustainable living.

The drive concluded with a collective resolve to sustain these efforts and uphold high standards of cleanliness across the campus, reaffirming the university community’s commitment to a healthy, orderly and environmentally responsible academic environment.
