POONCH: Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Poonch Amarjit Singh today visited the legacy waste remediation site of Municipal Council to review the ongoing scientific disposal of the accumulated waste.
The ADDC was accompanied by ACD Shakeel Ahmed Malik. The CEO Municipal Council Khalil A. Banday informed the visiting officers that approximately 9,825 MT of legacy waste is being processed at the site by M/s Lord Shiva.
The ADDC inspected the ongoing remediation activities and emphasized that source segregation is the foundation of sustainable waste management. He stressed that households, institutions, commercial establishments and other waste generators must segregate waste at source, enabling efficient collection, recycling, processing and scientific disposal.
He underlined that while remediation addresses the legacy waste accumulated over the years, preventing the generation of fresh mixed waste through effective source segregation is equally important.
The ADDC made a strong appeal to the people of Poonch to make waste segregation a daily habit and take responsibility for the waste generated by them. He urged citizens to separate biodegradable, recyclable and other waste at source and hand it over through the prescribed collection system.
