  • Reviews relief & rehabilitation measures taken by District Admin

RAMBAN: Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar today visited the relief camp set up by the District Administration for Parnote land subsidence victims and interacted with the affected families there. The Div Com also reviewed the assessment of the damaged property, restoration of road connectivity, public utilities and infrastructure devastated due to the calamity.

During his day-long visit to Ramban, the Divisional Commissioner took first hand stock of the damages at the site of calamity and listened to the people affected by the disaster. He enquired about the measures taken by the different departments for providing relief, temporary accommodation, food and other essential services to the affected families. He directed the concerned to provide all possible assistance to the affected people.

Listening to the issues and demands of the affected families, the Div Com assured all possible support from the UT administration for their rehabilitation. He said that all their issues will be addressed by the administration and the District Administration has already drafted a comprehensive plan to address the issues raised by the victims. The Div Com said that the compensation as per government norms will be disbursed soon. He said that on the directions of Lieutenant Governor the District Administration is identifying the land to compensate the affected families.

“The teams of experts from IIT Jammu and Geological Surgery of India have already visited the area and took stock of the situation besides taking samples to analyse the cause behind the sinking of land” he informed. Earlier, Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary briefed the Div Com about rescue and rehabilitation operations launched by the District Administration with the help of District Police, NDRF, SDRF, Civil defence Volunteers and locals.

It was informed that a comprehensive rehabilitation plan has been formulated to facilitate the affected families in all essential aspects. He further informed that the situation in Pernote is being monitored at the highest levels and all measures have been taken to facilitate the victims of the land sinking incident. The Div Com urged the people not to go near the sinking area as suggested by the team of experts of Geological Surgery of India. All the concerned departments were directed to provide benefits of schemes to affected families by the respective departments.

Later, the Divisional Commissioner also visited the Digdol-Sumber route and directed for ensuring alternative transportation solutions following the closure of the Ramban-Gool road. The alternative route will play a crucial role in maintaining economic activities in Sub Division Gool despite the challenges posed by land subsidence at Pernote. The Divisional Commissioner was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Ramban Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary, SSP, Ramban Anuj Kumar, and other officers.
