JAMMU: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), in collaboration with the Vishwa Yoga Sansthan, organized a special yoga session today at the picturesque Suryaputri Tawi Riverfront, promoting fitness, wellness, healthy living and greater community participation.

Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar attended the event as the Chief Guest. JMC Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav and SSP Jammu Joginder Singh were also present, along with Joint Commissioner (Revenue and Enforcement) Kulbhushan Khajuria, Joint Commissioner (Administration) Rajiv Khajuria, Deputy Commissioner (North, JMC) Sanjay Badayal, other senior officers of the Jammu Municipal Corporation and a large number of citizens and yoga enthusiasts.

The session was conducted by Yoga Guru Acharya Dr. Karan, Chairman, Vishwa Yoga Sansthan, who guided participants through a series of yoga asanas, pranayama and meditation exercises. The serene surroundings of the Tawi Riverfront provided an ideal setting for the session, creating an atmosphere of peace, positivity and holistic well-being.

Speaking on the occasion, the speakers highlighted the importance of yoga in maintaining physical fitness, mental well-being and emotional balance. They emphasized that yoga is not merely a form of exercise but a holistic discipline that strengthens the body, calms the mind and promotes a healthier and more balanced lifestyle. Citizens were encouraged to incorporate yoga and regular physical activity into their daily routines.

Talking to the media, JMC Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav said that the Corporation is committed to developing the Suryaputri Tawi Riverfront as a vibrant, accessible and year-round public space for the people of Jammu.

He said that with the arrangements for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra gradually winding down, the JMC is now focusing on reviving and expanding a range of regular activities at the riverfront. Initiatives such as yoga, fitness and recreational programmes, he said, are aimed at encouraging citizens to make greater use of the riverfront while promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.

Dr. Yadav invited the people of Jammu to visit the riverfront with their families, particularly during the morning and evening hours and make use of its open spaces and facilities for fitness, recreation, leisure and relaxation. He further said that the JMC will continue to introduce meaningful, public-oriented activities at the riverfront to enhance its appeal as a vibrant community space and foster greater citizen participation.

The yoga session was also organized in the run-up to Independence Day, adding to the spirit of unity, wellness, community participation and responsible citizenship. The event concluded with an appeal to citizens to embrace yoga and regular physical activity as an integral part of their daily lives and collectively contribute towards building a healthier, fitter, more active and vibrant Jammu.
