JAMMU: The Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh (ABRSM), District Ramban Unit, organized a grand ‘Guru Vandana’ programme today at BVM High School, Ramban, to honour and celebrate the contributions of teachers in nation-building and value-based education. The event was graced by Dr. Jaspal Singh Warwal, Professor at the Centre for Distance and Online Learning, University of Jammu, as the Chief Guest, and Sh. Dev Raj Thakur, National Joint Secretary, ABRSM, as the Guest of Honour.

The programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by a devotional Saraswati Vandana, invoking blessings for wisdom and learning. In his address, Dr. Jaspal Singh Warwal spoke on the essential attributes of an ideal teacher and their critical role in shaping society. “Teachers who excel in values and dedication not only shape the future of generations but also earn deep social prestige,” he emphasized.

Sh. Dev Raj Thakur highlighted the ongoing efforts of ABRSM to uplift the teaching community and acknowledged the significant role of teachers in the formulation and implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

“Teachers are the true pillars of society,” he affirmed. Dr. Ramparshad Singh Manhas, District President, ABRSM Ramban, delivered the introductory note, emphasizing the Guru’s role in Indian cultural and national ethos. He remarked: “A teacher is not only a guide but a Mahamaanav one who tirelessly shapes the character and future of students to build a responsible society.”

He also quoted a meaningful couplet:

"Bhali Bahi Jo Guru Mile, Nahi Ter Hoti Haani,

Deepak Nar Patang, Padta Poori Jaani."

(A worthy Guru dispels darkness and leads to wisdom; like a lamp to the moth, he reveals the truth of life.)

The audience was deeply inspired by motivational speeches that emphasized the need to embed Bharatiya cultural values in modern education and reaffirmed the noble responsibilities of educators. A large number of teachers, students, dignitaries, and local citizens attended the event, making it a heartfelt and meaningful celebration of teacherhood.

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Manhas reiterated:  “A Guru is not just a teacher, but a torchbearer of wisdom and moral strength. Only a consecrated Guru can build an enlightened society infused with scientific temper and national values. ABRSM remains committed to this mission.”

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Manhas, who expressed deep gratitude to the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, participating educators, volunteers, students, and the organizing team for their enthusiastic participation.
