- Thousands pay obeisance on first day
SAMBA: Member Parliament, Jammu-Poonch constituency Jugal Kishore Sharma today inaugurated the annual mela at the famous shrine of Baba Sidh Goria at Swankha here. He paid obeisance at the temple and prayed for peace and prosperity of the country and the state. MLA Vijaypur Chander Parkash Ganga and MLA Nowshera Ravinder Raina were also present on the occasion.
The MP congratulated people and said these shrines are a part of our proud heritage and we must strive to preserve our social and cultural ethos. “Such events play a pivotal role in maintaining brotherhood, peace and prosperity, "he added. They also visited different stalls set up by various departments. Stalls of different items like Fruits, vegetables, equipments and tools etc were set up for exhibition and awareness of general public.
Thousands of devotees from different parts of the state as well as from others states such as Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Himachal Pardesh participated in the mela on the first day. People also took bath in the holy Sarovar believed to have healing powers. Despite sweltering heat, unending lines of devotees were seen throughout the day. The MP appreciated efforts of District administration for making elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the mela. SSP Traffic Rural Jammu, SDM Vijaypur, CEO, CAO, CHO, officers and officials of various departments were also present on the occasion.
