KARBALA, IRAQ: Over 30 million muslims gathered in Karbala city of Iraq to observe Ashura and pay tribute to Imam Hussain (a.s) , the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w) and his companions who were martyred here on this 10th day of Muharram 61 AH of the Islamic calendar (680 AD). Ashura is being observed with full devotion here and the streets of Karbala are flooded with people with hardly any space to move, but the arrangements made by the locals are worth watching and they make sure that nobody remains hungry or thirsty. Food, water, beverages, coffee, baby food etc is distributed at every corner of the city. The authorities have made sure the safety and security of every visitor by making ample security arrangements and medical facilities available. The mourners visit the holy shrines of Imam Hussain (a.s) and his brother Abal Fazal Abbas to mark their presence and pay tribute to the Martyrs of Karbala.
