KISHTWAR: Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) has opened its branch here in this mountainous town. Run by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, New Delhi, an autonomous organization under the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, the school in Kishtwar town was opened on October 15-2018 and it will function from a temporary building here at Shalimar Colony.
JNV, Kishtwar is a first of its kind in the district which is fully residential and co-educational school affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, with classes from VI to XII standard. JNVs are specifically tasked with finding talented children in rural areas of India and providing them with an education equivalent to the best residential school system, without regard to their families' socio--economic conditions.
DDC Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana termed the opening of JNV as a great achievement for the people of Kishtwar. He stated that the establishment of JNV in the district will provide quality and modern education to the students and it will also assure a bright future for young , talented children particularly from rural areas. I/c Principal, JNV Roshan Lal stated that the classes shall commence shortly . It is pertinent to mention here that permanent site for JNV Kishtwar has been selected at Hari, Palmar, Kishtwar for which land measuring 168 kanals and 12 marals has been identified.
