JAMMU: Day 4 of the five-day Holistic Orientation Programme at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu, held under the visionary leadership of Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, witnessed a vibrant blend of mindfulness practices, global business perspectives, and insights into digital disruption. The carefully curated sessions aimed to nurture resilience, strategic thinking, and self-awareness among the new batches, preparing them to navigate and lead in a rapidly transforming global landscape.
The day began with an energizing session titled Maximize Happiness and Mindfulness, conducted by renowned yoga guru Shri Sahil Mehra under the aegis of Anandam – The Center of Happiness. The session focused on cultivating inner peace and emotional well- being among students. Prof. Shyam Narayan Lal, Chairperson, Anandam and Media & Publication Division, along with Brigadier Neeraj Soni (Retd.), Co-Chairperson,Anandam welcomed participants and set the tone for the day’s engagements.
Prof. Prashant Mishra, Chairperson – International Relations, IIM Jammu, addressed the incoming batch, highlighting the institute’s global engagement strategy and the International Exchange Program. He emphasized IIM Jammu’s growing international partnerships and the role of global exposure in building cross-cultural competencies and shaping future business leaders.The day also featured outbound activities for Group B, aimed at building team spirit, enhancing peer bonding, and fostering leadership through experiential learning.
Shri Kaushik Konlade, Director – Talent Acquisition at Pattern, highlighted that in today’s competitive digital landscape, the notion that “quality sells itself” is outdated. He stressed the need for creative marketing, predictive analytics, and data-driven strategies to drive brand growth, noting Pattern’s role as a full-spectrum e-commerce accelerator in unlocking digital potential.Shri Jitendra Rathore, Senior TA Partner at Pattern, spoke about the rise of Global Capability Centers (GCCs) in India and their role in scaling e-commerce innovation. He emphasized the need for agile teams, real-time insights, and a strong customer focus to drive transformation and global leadership.
Shri Kamal Stephen, APAC Talent Acquisition Head at SAP, urged students to view AI as a strategic enabler rather than a threat. Drawing from global experience, he introduced the idea of a personal ‘value creation tree, encouraging ownership of growth through creating, curating, and conveying value. Emphasizing curiosity, collaboration, and learning from failure, he conveyed a strong message—the future belongs to those who innovate, adapt, and evolve.
Cmdr Kesavan Baskkaran (R), Chief Administrative Officer, IIM Jammu, delivered an insightful and comprehensive address covering key aspects of campus administration. He detailed the framework of administrative support, expectations regarding student discipline, hostel management protocols, and the institution’s commitment to maintaining a safe and secure campus environment. His session offered new students a clear understanding of the rules, responsibilities, and resources essential for a smooth, successful, and disciplined academic journey.
The day further progressed with an engaging real-time case study exercise conducted across five classrooms—Prahlad, Patanjali, Valmiki, and Nagarjuna, Shankracharya—facilitated by IIM Jammu faculty members including Dr. Rashmi Ranjan Parida, Dr. Mahesh Gadekar, Dr. Baljeet Singh, Dr. Rambalak Yadav, and Dr. Niti Shekhar. The new students actively participated in case analysis and solution presentations, fostering collaborative learning and the practical application of management concepts.
Shri Shailesh Lohiya, Librarian, IIM Jammu, welcomed new students to NALANDA—the Institute’s state-of-the-art, RFID-enabled library. He highlighted its extensive collection of business resources, e-journals, digital tools, and comfortable study spaces designed to support academic excellence. He also provided an overview of library services and emphasized the importance of reading and research in enriching students' learning and overall academic journey.
Shri Rajat Jain, Financial Advisor & Chief Accounts Officer, (FA-CAO), IIM Jammu, addressed the incoming students during the Orientation Programme 2025, providing a comprehensive overview of the financial support systems and key initiatives implemented at the Institute.He also emphasized the importance of financial planning and discipline during study, encouraging students to make informed financial decisions that align with their academic and professional goals. His session aimed to empower students with the necessary financial knowledge and resources, enabling them to focus on their learning and development with confidence and clarity.
The evening concluded with the continued celebration of “Rang Tarang – A Festival of Theatre and Dance”, presented by the IPM 4th Batch under the direction of Padma Shri Balwant Thakur. The performances showcased creativity, expression, and the rich cultural heritage of the region, with students bringing vibrant energy to the stage through powerful acts.The evening was graced by Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, and Padma Shri Balwant Thakur, who were both present to encourage and appreciate the students' efforts.
