JAMMU: The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Central University of Jammu, hosted a distinguished expert lecture on the cutting-edge topic "Vision Transformer and its Applications", delivered by Prof. Deepak Mishra from the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, research scholars, and students of ECE department. Prof. Mishra, an academician and researcher in the domains of computer vision, elaborated on the emerging role of Vision Transformers (ViTs) in image classification, object detection, and computer vision tasks.

He provided an in-depth overview of the underlying architecture, advantages over convolutional neural networks (CNNs), and real-world applications in remote sensing, medical imaging, and autonomous systems. 

The session was highly engaging and intellectually enriching, offering participants valuable insights into state-of-the-art deep learning models and their interdisciplinary applications. Attendees had the opportunity to interact directly with Prof. Mishra during the Q&A session, which sparked stimulating discussions around AI-driven research frontiers. 

The expert talk was coordinated by Dr. Haneet Kour under the supervision of Prof. Rakesh Kumar Jha, HoD, ECE, who is known for promoting high-impact research initiatives in space technology at the university. 

As a mark of honor and appreciation, Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, presented a memento to Prof. Deepak Mishra and expressed his gratitude for sharing his expertise with the university community.

Prof. Jain also emphasized the importance of such expert talks in fostering a research-oriented culture and motivating students to explore advanced topics in science and technology.
